SearStone Presents “Aging Well by Eating Locally Grown Food”"
April 2, 2009
CARY, N.C. (April x, 2009) – SearStone, a distinctively different continuing care retirement community (CCRC), is pleased to announce the latest presentation in its Aging Well by Living Well series. “Aging Well by Eating Locally Grown Food” will feature presentations from Cane Creek Farm, Herons Restaurant and SearStone at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 30.
Where to Retire magazine recently named the Triangle area as one of the best eight areas to retire. One of the reasons cited by the magazine is the area’s “slow food movement” to support local farmers and preserve regional traditions and cuisines.
Attendees at both “Aging Well by Eating Locally Grown Food” sessions will learn the importance of eating locally for their health and for the environment. Seating is limited, so RSVPs are required for these events.
Featured in Bon Appétit and Gourmet magazines, Cane Creek Farm is a small, family-owned farm in Snow Camp that practices sustainable agriculture, rotating crops and animals to keep the soil healthy and to keep the animals on fresh forage. Eliza MacLean, owner of Cane Creek Farm, will provide information on how eating locally produced, naturally raised livestock and produce is healthier for you.
Daniel Benjamin, director of pastries at Herons, will share recipes that use local ingredients and that can be easily prepared at home. Herons is the recipient of the coveted 2009 AAA Four Diamond Award and 2009 Mobil Travel Guide Four Star Award. Located in the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, Herons is a culinary haven for local food enthusiasts, for business associates seeking to impress, and for discerning destination diners in search of a superb modern dining experience in the South.
Morgan Lamphere, director of community outreach at SearStone, will discuss plans for incorporating local ingredients grown on site into dining options for the residents. SearStone’s landscaping will include fruit- and nut-bearing trees to promote natural beauty and healthy eating.
The SearStone Information Centre is located at 106 Walker Stone Drive in Cary, just off of Davis Drive, two-tenths of a mile south of the intersection with High House Road.
To RSVP for either the 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. session, please call (919) 466-9366 or e-mail info@searstone.com. For more information about the SearStone community, visit www.searstone.com.
