SearStone Donates Full Complement of Kitchen Appliances to Local Charity

When the staff of SearStone, a distinctly different senior community, switched out the kitchen appliances in their model home, they didn’t want to relegate the good-as new appliances to storage. Instead, the staff searched for a way to ensure that the appliances would go to needy families in the community.
When Rev. Luther Brewer, former pastor of Greenwood Baptist Church and a SearStone board member, recommended The Carying Place, the wheels were set in motion to make that wish a reality. Staff from The Carying Place recently came to SearStone and carted off a double oven (conventional and convection), flat cooktop, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave oven.
“We’re very pleased that the Carying Place will be able to make good use of these donated appliances and match them with local families in need,” said Susan Linthicum, sales director for SearStone. “It’s very important for us to be involved with the local community and to help out where we can.”
Founded in 1993, the Carying Place helps homeless working families with children and teaches life skills necessary for independent living. Each family accepted into the program is assigned a program manager and is also paired with a volunteer team, who work in tandem with the family to develop a personalized plan for self-sufficiency. Families stay in the program up to four months, and the organization serves up to eight families at a time.
“On behalf of The Carying Place board, staff and especially the families we serve, I would like to thank SearStone for their generous contribution and ongoing support of the program,” said Sue Marcinko, executive director of The Carying Place.
